Breast Cancer Survivors!!

We at Costume Universe would like to praise those Breast Cancer Survivors for their strength and courage.

I, personally, have a sister who is a survivor from Breast Cancer. She was diagnosed a few years ago and has gone through several surgeries and therapy sessions. You may see her walking down the street and think she is this little piece of a thing and she is.. but inside she is taller and stronger than anyone else. I praise her for her courage and for the love that she shows to everyone else.  She has been cancer free for 4 years now.

I know that several of you have seen and read the stories of all of these brave women who everyday are battling this horrible disease. At times it is just overwhelming to hear about what they have to go through, physically and mentally, to beat this disease. We as family members and friends stand by and pray for them, hold their hand when they are down, or lend an ear and shoulder when times are tough and they are weak from fighting… but we push them to continue because we know that they can succeed…. it is a lot easier to say than do.. right?

God Bless you all! We wish you the best that life has to offer you and we pray for your continued strength, courage, and your undaunting view that you will beat this…. WE KNOW YOU WILL AND WITH GOD’s HEALING HAND YOU SHALL!!

Crhistmas 2009 – 15 days to Christmas Eve

I am sure that most of you have already decorated for Christmas. The lights are out, the tree is up, and festive decorations are everywhere.

For me Christmas time, means family, fireplaces, snow, and cold weather. I unfortunately live in Costa Rica where the weather doesn’t really change much but it never really gets cold. Locals would challenge me on that because when it even gets just a tad bit cooler the parkas, scarves, mittens, and leather jackets come out. I’m walking around in shorts and t-shirt and they are all covered head to toe. But to each their own.. right?

For me, there is just something about getting your tree when it’s cold out. Putting up the decorations while the fireplace is going. Sipping Egg Nog while your in your favorite slippers and wrapped around a nice warm blanket. Those ar the items that I miss during the holidays.

In preparation for this year, we always look back and see what this year has brought us, family and friends, and give thanks to our Dear Lord that we have another year behind us and are fortunate enough to see another new year.

Merry Christmas and the happiest of Holidays

Christmas and what is it becoming!

As I was scrolling through the numerous articles that I read, I found this one below and I thank Eric Metaxas from FoxNews for publishing it.   I have copied it below for those who would like to read it or you can visit this link.  It is really concerning to me and several of my friends that we are even discussing this issue or that we have this issue.

Christmas was a time for peace, joy, family, and faith.  For as long as this country has been, these traditions that so many want to change or do away with are just NOW becoming offensive or inappropriate especially in our government.

Read the following article and let me know your thoughts.

Jesus Nearly Banned at White House Inn

By Eric Metaxas – FOXNews.com

Is the Obama administration so afraid to offend people of other beliefs that they will seriously consider obliterating basic American traditions?

I can see the headlines now: “Gate-crashers Enter White House; Jesus Kept Out!” Except it almost happened. Really.

I was reading the New York Times Sunday Styles section yesterday (yep, I’m straight) when I came across an article about embattled White House Social Secretary Desiree Rogers — she’s the one who broke with previous White House tradition by inviting herself to the state dinner when she should have been at the door keeping out the loopy riff-raff.

But in the twelfth paragraph of the article there was a real bombshell: It said that earlier this year at a luncheon with other previous White House social secretaries, Ms. Rogers claimed that this year the White House would have a “non-religious” Christmas celebration. (For those of you confused by that, it’s just like a “non-religious” Yom Kippur celebration, or a “non-Irish” St. Patrick’s Day celebration, or an “international” July 4th celebration.)

The Times article continued:

“The lunch conversation inevitably turned to whether the White House would display its crèche, customarily placed in a prominent spot in the East Room. Ms. Rogers, this participant said, replied that the Obamas did not intend to put the manger scene on display — a remark that drew an audible gasp from the tight-knit social secretary sisterhood. (A White House official confirmed that there had been internal discussions about making Christmas more inclusive and whether to display the crèche.)”

In the next sentence we learn that this radical idea was eventually scotched. (Perhaps the “audible gasp” from the bipartisan audience tipped them off.) But the fact that it was going to happen reveals a level of political tone-deafness in the current administration that is staggering. To most average Americans — who did not grow up in an Ivy-League, inside-the-Beltway hothouse governed by the rules of the French Revolution — the idea of keeping Jesus out of “the people’s house” at Christmas evokes disturbing images of the Holy Family being turned away from the Inn, or worse yet, images of Herod. But to a super-secular White House afraid to offend anyone — except for average Americans — it probably just seemed like another fab “progressive” innovation.

If President Obama wanted to fuel the fears of every serious Christian in America and actually prove that he is every bad thing they’ve ever heard about him on every crazy Web site, the idea of symbolically taking Jesus out of the White House at Christmas would be just the ticket!

Let’s face it: “Brand Obama” dodged a bullet by not going forward with this terrible idea, but only barely dodged it. After all, the facts of the story are right there in The New York Times for all to see.

What can be said of an administration so out of touch with the people it governs? Previous American presidents seemed to understand that while America is not “officially” a Christian nation, it is a nation whose Founders all believed in a Creator, and whose people are overwhelmingly Christian. Even Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton had the créche displayed during their administrations. What is going on?

Is this administration so afraid to offend people of other beliefs that they will seriously consider obliterating basic American traditions? As a friend of mine put it: their logic is like saying that serving American food at the White House state dinner might offend the Indians in the room.

But it’s never offensive to simply be yourself. What can be terribly offensive is bending over backwards when its absolutely unnecessary. Or bowing when it’s absolutely unnecessary. People may begin to suspect that you simply have spine issues — and yes, I mean that metaphorically.

The Adventure Begins — Part 2

Part 1 dealt with the adventure of getting ready for the Holiday season and what almost every family goes through to get prepared. We look back at everything we do just to see those special moments on Christmas Day.

The adventure that I will touch on is the one that happens afterward. The toy truck that will take a little boy through the make believe world of hauling, moving, digging, and all of those places that his mind will take him to. The doll which takes a little girl to those places of tea parties, castles, and far away places where it is just her and her new best friend.

We can’t forget about the teenagers who will try on those new shoes, shirt, dress, jeans, jewelry that when they look in the mirror can already see themselves going back to school in their new duds. The adults who will do the same thing but maybe with a new TV, clothes, computer or laptop, and just about anything.

We all ponder of how cool it is and can’t wait for everyone else to look at our new possessions. We at CostumeUniverse would like to add on to those adventures. Imagine gifting a new costume that will go with what your child, teenager, and, yes, even an adult, has just received and it takes them further into that euphoria of an imaginary place. Because we all know that once you put on a costume you take on that role from which the costume signifies.

Putting on that princess dress that matches the doll that matches the tea set…. what a better way to really enjoy that moment. A little boy could put on that fireman costume to go along with that new firetruck that he wanted. Then watching him go outside and battle those make believe fires.

That is the adventure that I am talking about in this part. Think about adding that little extra something to those moments! Look through our selection of costumes and accessories and just picture of how much more enjoyable those precious moments can be and how much memorable.

Happy Holidays……………..

The Adventure Begins —-

With Halloween behind us and in a couple of weeks Thanksgiving will be be history for 2009, the rush for those Christmas decorations, Christmas trees, and all of those gifts that need to be purchased is upon us. That is truly when the adventure begins. The after Thanksgiving Sales that this year all of the retailers are going to be after will be here in a wink of an eye. What is going to be on sale? What will are you going to purchase for your loved ones? Who is going to have the biggest sale or give you the biggest savings?

The hunt then begins and so the adventure. How to be in two places at one time to get the one thing at one store and then drive to the other one before they are sold out and, heaven forbid, then to deal with the long lines at checkout. Hence, why so many people now shop online and even then you have to worry about slow websites and slow checkout processes.. BUT we still do it all for the sake of having those precious moments on Christmas Day when everyone is trying their new toys, wearing their new clothes, playing with electronics, or, for me, seeing the smiling faces on the ones you love when they open their gifts.

Happy Holidays……………

It’s almost time — Halloween 2009

I hope everyone has already purchased or made their 2009 Halloween costume. I know that I have and if you are the social butterfly you probably have at least 2 different Halloween parties that you have been invited to and you don’t want to show up with the same costume to both. I have selected the Gladiator costume from costumeuniverse.com as one of my choices and the second is the Zombie Doctor.  One party is this weekend so I went with one that is not too scary or horrific but for Halloween night I selected the Zombie Doctor.  For Halloween night, I wanted to do something to go along with the Thriller Michael Jackson look.  There are a group of us doing the whole Thriller dance sequence so it should be a blast.

For those of you who haven’t selected anything yet, CostumeUniverse.com has some of the best prices around and with a 15% discount on their entire line up.  Just use the coupon code ‘happy’ at the end of your checkout and you’ll get the discount.  It doesn’t matter how much you purchase, you’ll still get the discount.  In most cases, the discount will come out to more or less your shipping cost.  SO in essence, you’ll be getting free shipping.

If you are having a party, I am sure that decorations and imaginations are running amuck and don’t forget the dry ice. It will give your Potion a very special smoking effect. JUST DON’T SERVE IT OR TOUCH IT!

Don’t forget to be careful driving in and around neighborhoods since there will be kids all over the place. Don’t drink and Drive ESPECIALLY and if you do drink take a cab or have a designated driver. You do not want to be that person on the morning news the next day. We have always enjoyed Halloween and it is one of our favorite times of the year so try to keep it safe for all.

Send me your halloween pics and we’ll try to post some to our website.
